Why do mill pups come to One Paw?
Puppy mills overbreed to the point where they produce more dogs than they can sell. Dogs typically get rejected for reasons ranging from birth defects, being born with the wrong color fur or eye color, or just simply because no one wanted to purchase them. When the dogs are not sold, the puppy mills destroy them, and it is legal to do so. One Paw partners with other rescues and transport companies to save these unwanted dogs. We are transparent with potential adopters on where the dogs comes from and if any have health issues we were made aware of.
What does our adoption fee cover?
Our adoption fee for these puppy mill pups range from $400 to $950. All of the puppies and adults come in with age appropriate vaccines, deworming and a health certificate showing the dog was seen by a vet before transport. Our team microchips the dogs upon their arrival and we apply flea and tick prevention and heartworm prevention on all of our incoming dogs. Adult dogs and older puppies will be current on rabies and all adults are heartworm tested. Older dogs and our special need pups will have a reduced adoption fee. All medical information will be provided to the adopter prior to the meet-and-greet.
Does One Paw adopt Out -of-State?
We do adopt in the Tri-State area. We require an in-person meet -and-greet so the team can ensure there is a good connection between the adopter and the dog. We do not require all family members to attend the meet. It would be best if they can, but we do understand busy schedules and we know it may be difficult to have everyone available. We do not allow our pups to fly back to any location.
Do we have a Return Policy?
Yes, we will always take our dogs back. Once a One Paw dog, always a One Paw dog! However our adoption fee is non-refundable. We of course want all of our adoptions to be a success. We understand sometimes it is not the right fit. We will work with the family on a smooth return and make sure the dog is placed in a more suitable home for their needs. We understand most of our pups are posted as low shedding or hypoallergenic. We cannot guarantee that allergies will not occur with some of the pups. That information is disclosed to adoptive families during their in-person meet therefore a refund will not be issued due to allergies. If a family is returning a dog months or even years after their adoption - the dog must be spayed / neutered and current on core vaccines. We will charge a surrender fee if the dog requires any vetting.
How can adopters connect with their pup's siblings?
We give all of our adopters information on our Alumni FB page on how to connect with their adoptive pup's siblings. On this page, adopters can connect with sibling adopters plus other adopters that have been through the adoption process. It is such a wonderful page for adopters! You can post pictures, ask questions or just connect with other adopters! There is always someone on the page looking for guidance, or someone looking to share news, stories, pictures or information that will help others and create a fun and friendly atmosphere to share information. ONLY One Paw adopters can be on this page - which makes it a wonderful sharing environment!
